The Integrated Head Protection System (IHPS) ballistic helmet is currently the pride of the US Army.
It remains the best of helmets specifically designed for the protection of soldiers. It was designed to stay up to the task of protecting its wearers from advanced weapons of war.
There have been helmets like the Advanced Combat Helmet (ACH) and Enhanced Combat Helmet (ECH), but the IHPS is an upgrade of both. It protects its wearers by providing greater blunt impact protection against rifles.
The ballistic helmet is also very light. The importance of lightweight protective equipment during operations is that it gives the wearers increased efficiency and productivity. The IHPS has accessories that can be attached to the helmet. These accessories include the mandible, a visor, rails, and a modular ballistic applique.
They all exist to ensure the ease of operation for wearers with increased protection. The accessories have added to the ability of the IHPS to protect the whole face of the wearer.
The reason the IHPS has a mandible is that it ensures the protectionof the lower jaw. All body parts matter because they enable the appropriate functioning of a human being. The lower jaw is significant because it is responsible for the movement of the mouth. The positioning of the lower row of teeth is placed in the lower jaw. Also, the lower jaw, also known as the mandible, aids the chewing of food.
Itis safe to state that the word “mandible” for this accessory was gotten from the body part it protects.
If a soldier ends up with an injured lower jaw, it means a lot of functioning will be tampered with. Therefore, in avoiding such occurrence, the IHPS adds a mandible that is optional but is advised to be mostly worn by the soldiers. The ballistic helmet allows you to protect your face’s structure by providing increased protection for a vital part of the body; the mandible.
